What is SciMathUS?
SciMathUS (Science and Mathematics at Stellenbosch University) is a one-year university preparation program run by SUNCEP (Stellenbosch University Centre for Pedagogy).
Unlike a standard rewrite, this is a full-time, campus-based program. You don’t just rewrite your subjects; you attend university-style classes, gain access to Stellenbosch facilities, and prepare yourself for the rigors of higher education.
The Goal: To help you improve your NSC marks in specific subjects so you can re-apply for competitive degrees in 2027.

Urgent: Space is extremely limited. The program receives over 2,000 applications for only 100 spots. Do not wait until the last minute!
Who Can Apply? (Entry Requirements)
To be considered for the 2026 class, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:
1. Your Matric Year
You must have passed Grade 12 in 2025 or 2024.
Note: If you matriculated in 2023 or earlier, you do not qualify.
2. Academic Marks
Grade 12 Average: Minimum 60% (excluding Life Orientation).
Language: Minimum 50% in English or Afrikaans (Home or First Additional Language).
Subject Specifics:
Science Stream: Min 45% in Math AND 45% in Physical Sciences.
Accounting Stream: Min 45% in Math AND 45% in Accounting.
⚠️Strict Rule: Students with Mathematical Literacy will NOT be accepted.⚠️
3. Background
You must submit evidence that you are from an educationally or financially disadvantaged background (e.g., specific school circumstances or household income).
The Curriculum: What Will You Study?
This is a rigorous program involving roughly 7 hours of classes daily. You will choose one of two streams:
SciMathUS isn’t just about rewriting exams; it’s a full preparation for university success.
Subject Improvement: You will re-write the NSC exams for Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
Extra Skills: You receive tuition in Computer Literacy and Academic Literacy.
Language: Classes are offered in both English and Afrikaans. If the majority of the class is English-speaking, the primary language of instruction will be English.
University Access: With your improved marks, you can re-apply to Stellenbosch University or any other institution (though placement is not guaranteed).
