Are you a young South African looking to serve your country while gaining invaluable professional skills? The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially opened applications for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 intake.

This two-year voluntary service program offers initial military training and specialized functional training, followed by practical deployments in the second year to develop leadership and professional expertise.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants

To qualify for the MSDS, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen (No dual citizenship)

  • Age: Β Grade 12 Applicants: 18–22 years old when reporting.

    • Tertiary Graduates: Up to 26 years old (for those with a 3-year degree or diploma)
  • Education:Β  A minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 18, excluding Life Orientation.

    • Mathematics and Physical Science are required for specialized roles like Aviation or Engineering.

  • Fitness & Health: Must comply with medical requirements and be prepared for drug testing and psychometric evaluations.
  • Criminal Record: You must have no criminal record or pending cases.
  • Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing a uniform

Required Documentation

You must attach the following documents to your application form:

  1. Β A comprehensive CV.

  2. Β Copies of your ID.

  3. Β Matric Certificate (Only 2025 statements of results are accepted for recent learners).

  4. Copies of Tertiary Qualifications (if applicable).

How to Complete the SANDF Application Form

  • Biographical Information: Fill in your full first name, surname, and ID number exactly as they appear on your ID document.

  • Contact Details: Provide your current cell phone number and at least two alternative numbers to ensure the recruitment office can reach you.

  • Address: Enter your full residential address, including the town, province, and postal code.

  • Statistical Data: Tick the box for your specific province (e.g., Gauteng, Limpopo, or Western Cape), gender, and race.

  • Education Details: Confirm if you have a Matric certificate and specify the year it was obtained and the certificate number. If you have a tertiary qualification, indicate if it is an N6, 3-year Diploma, or Degree.

  • Declaration & Signature: Print your initials and surname, then sign and date the form to certify that all information provided is true and accurate.
